It is acknowledged that most construction professionals understand the fundamental principals of, and the need for, information management and co-ordination in the design and construction processes.
However, we are convinced that the importance of design information management and pre construction co-ordination in all its forms is not fully appreciated. We also believe these roles are left too late into the project to take advantage of the benefits full multiservice co-ordination can offer.
Common practice frequently dictates the responsibility for co-ordinating the services is passed to the contractors. But by the time the contractors become involved the problems, which often result from the lack of design information and co-ordination, are already well established. As a consequence the only solutions are often radical, frequently having significant implications to the overall design, the project cost and programme. Typically such situations end in disputes and litigation.
To overcome these problems the company advocates and promotes closer, clearer and more accurate information management and co-ordination during the design and development stage of the project.
Properly co-ordinated design in conjunction with information management during the preconstruction stage saves time and money.
A further benefit arising from a properly co-ordinated and managed information during a project is an increased confidence in quality of the information provided. We see this promoting an atmosphere of trust, which is the basis of partnering agreements, now advocated as the way forward in our industry.
We as a company are promoting a fuller role for design information management and pre construction co-ordination in the construction process, which we believe leads to improved control and management of the process thereby providing true added value to projects.
